MONMOUTH, Ill. — Kyle Cantwell, a 6-foot-8
junior transfer from Black Hawk East College, plans to enroll at
Monmouth College this fall and play basketball for coach Terry
Glasgow’s Fighting Scots.
Cantwell, a former all-conference performer
at Stark County High School in both basketball and football, brings
some much-needed height to Glasgow’s program, which could return as
many as nine players 6-4 or taller, but no one bigger than 6-7
junior center Jason Murren.
“Obviously, I’m extremely pleased that Kyle
has decided to become a Fighting Scot,” said Glasgow, who has won
429 games in 31 seasons at Monmouth. “He is a fierce competitor with
great size and mobility, and he’ll provide a presence that we’ve not
had for several years.”
“Monmouth is close to home, so my relatives
can come watch me play,” said Cantwell. “It was also the most
attractive school I visited, and the new athletic facility (the Huff
Center) will be great.”
“Kyle is a talented young man that has the
ability to move us to another level,” concluded Glasgow. “His
contribution will be sizeable and will be felt immediately.”
Cantwell, the son of Martin and Barbara
Cantwell of Toulon, plans to major in physical education and
eventually become a teacher.
