MONMOUTH, Ill. – The post-season awards keep
piling up for Monmouth College’s Melissa Jones. The 5-foot-11 senior
post player from Port Byron, Ill., (United Township), has been named
to the D3hoops.com All-Central Region women’s basketball team.
Named to the third team, the physical
education major became only the sixth woman in MC history to score
1,000 points. Her 1,313 points is third all-time among women players
and is sixth among the men and women combined.
A four-time all-conference performer, Jones
led the team in scoring (15.7 ppg), rebounding (6.1 rpg), field goal
percentage (.518) and steals (30). She also holds school records for
single-game scoring (37) and career blocks (77).
“Melissa is a tremendous athlete and a great
example of the kind of student-athlete we’re producing at Monmouth,”
said coach Dennis Mann. “She has been a great leader for our team,
both on the court and in the classroom.”
The D3hoops.com team is voted on by sports
information directors from the Central Region, which includes
schools from Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin. To be eligible for the
award, an athlete must have made their all-conference first or
second teams.
The daughter of Butch and Sandra Jones of
Port Byron, Jones’ other post-season awards included first team
All-Midwest Conference and Verizon Academic All-District V College
Division second team.
