MONMOUTH, Ill. — The varsity tennis programs
at Monmouth College will be under new leadership next season, as
Chad Braun and LeAnn Hagen have accepted the positions of men’s and
women’s tennis coach, respectively.

Braun, who is also the defensive coordinator
for the Fighting Scots football team, has been part of the coaching
staff that’s led Monmouth to a 16-14 record in the past three
seasons. Hagen has guided the Scots softball team the past two
seasons, compiling an overall record of 41-29-1, including a
school-record 22 victories this spring. That success, which included
a division championship, led to her being named the Midwest
Conference South Division Coach of the Year.
Braun and Hagen take over from Dennis Mann,
who guided the return of both programs to intercollegiate
competition in 2002-03 after a 10-year layoff. Mann will remain the
women’s basketball coach, and next year will be his 12th with that
program at MC.

“We thank Dennis for his service and for
getting us through this time of transition with the tennis program,”
said Dr. Terry Glasgow, MC’s athletic director. “As a part-time
coach of three sports, he wasn’t able to give as much time to the
women’s basketball program as he would have liked, and now he’ll be
able to devote his full attention to it.
“Having coaches who are on our full-time
staff is very important for our tennis program,” continued Glasgow.
“We’re pleased that Chad and LeAnn have both accepted the
challenge.”
The tennis program, which already boasts an
outstanding new $1 million outdoor facility, will be strengthened
next winter by the completion of the $22 million Huff Athletic
Center, which will feature four indoor courts and will provide
student-athletes the opportunity to play year-round.
