MONMOUTH, Ill. – Monmouth College’s Justin Zigler nearly had a record setting performance Saturday and has been named the Midwest Conference Defensive Performer of the Week in football.

Zigler (Tampico, Ill./Prophetstown HS) was one tackle away from tying the Monmouth record when he registered 19 stops in the Scots 30-20 victory over Grinnell College.

With the score tied at 13-13 early in the second half, the sophomore linebacker forced a fumble to give the Fighting Scots the ball. The ensuing drive led to a field goal that put Monmouth ahead to stay.

A physical education major, Zigler is the son of Steve and Brenda Zigler of Tampico.
