MONMOUTH, Ill. – A total of 17
student-athletes at Monmouth College have been named to the Academic
All-Midwest Conference team for the spring 2003 sports season.
Student-athletes must have achieved at least a 3.2 grade point
average, attained at least sophomore status and completed one
academic year at their current school to be eligible for the honor.
The Fighting Scots’ softball team led the
college in selections with seven team members: seniors Carrie
Gerardi, Woodridge, Ill. (Downers Grove North), Cari Goff, Woodhull,
Ill. (AlWood), Vanessa Madison, Mapleton, Ill. (Limestone) and
Shelly Orwig, Wyoming, Ill. (Stark County); and juniors Nicole
Auclair, Darien, Ill. (Hinsdale South), Michelle Courchane, Roscoe,
Ill., (Hononegah) and Michelle Meyer, Mapleton, Ill., (Illini
Bluffs).
The women’s track and field team placed six
on the squad: seniors Cheris Beaty, Havana, Ill. (HS), Jill Hoops,
Hanna City, Ill. (Farmington), Melissa Jones, Port Byron, Ill. (East
Moline), Kara Kuhrts, Toulon, Ill. (Stark County) and Jennifer
Latchford, Rock Falls, Ill. (HS); and junior Elizabeth Altekruse,
St. Charles, Ill. (East).
Monmouth’s baseball team placed two on the
academic honor squad – senior Jeremy Hamilton, East Peoria, Ill.
(HS) and sophomore Thad King, Loraine, Ill. (ROWVA).
The men’s track and field and golf teams
placed one each on the list – junior Ryan Moll, Farmington, Ill.
(HS) from track and field and junior golfer Alan Sullivan,
Galesburg, Ill. (HS).
