MONMOUTH,
Ill. – Jessica Myers of Warrenton, Va. (Fauquier), helped the
Monmouth College women’s soccer team post a 2-1-1 mark in the
Midwest Conference and has been named the MWC Defensive Performer of
the Week.
The freshman sweeper led a revitalized
Fighting Scots’ defense that posted shutouts in all three matches
last week.
As the last line of defense before the
goalie, Myers proved to be the ‘keeper’s best friend, helping limit
Robert Morris to seven shots and Ripon to just two in 8-0 and 3-0
victories. Sunday against Carroll, Myers’ efforts helped Monmouth
snap the Lady Pioneers’ 21-match regular season winning streak as
the Scots improved to 5-3-1.
Myers played every minute of each game as
the Scots broke the previous school record with three consecutive
shutouts and five shutouts overall. She has started all nine of MC’s
games and has played all 830 minutes.
A psychology major, she is the daughter of
Charles and Kathy Myers.
