MONMOUTH,
Ill. – Monmouth College’s Kristin Mertel (Hoffman Estates, IL/HS)
has been honored by the Midwest Conference as the MWC Defensive
Performer of the Week in women’s soccer.
The freshman stopper made her presence felt
on both offense and defense in Monmouth's final two games of the
season.
Despite playing a defensive position, Mertel
notched a goal and an assist against St. Norbert, and she also had
the Scots’ only assist in a 1-1 tie against Lawrence.
The Fighting Scots equaled the school record
for winning percentage with a mark of 7-6-2. Mertel finished the
year with five goals and sevens assists, and her 17 points were
third on the team.
