Football rivalry benefits charity

Release Date: November 7, 2003

Dori Warrington of Monmouth's Jamieson Community Center accepts frozen turkeys and canned goods from Monmouth and Knox College presidents Dick Giese (left) and Roger Taylor, following last year's Monmouth victory.

MONMOUTH, Ill. — As they have for the past two years, Knox College President Roger Taylor and Monmouth College President Richard Giese have made a friendly wager to benefit local food banks, based on the outcome of the Bronze Turkey football game between the two schools on Saturday, Nov. 8.

This year's game, starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday in the Knox Bowl in Galesburg, offers free admission to anyone donating a canned good at the gate.

The frozen turkeys and canned goods will be delivered to a food bank next week by the president of the school that loses the game.

This year's game is the 115th in the rivalry, the third-oldest series in NCAA Div. III football and the sixth-oldest in all of college football.
