Release Date: January 7, 2003
MONMOUTH,
Ill. – Monmouth College’s Melissa Jones (Port Byron, Ill./East
Moline) has been honored by the Midwest Conference as its Women’s
Basketball Co-Player of the Week for the second time this season.
The senior forward led the Fighting Scots to a 1-1 record in action
in Tennessee last weekend. In both contests, she was the only
Monmouth player in double figures, and she also led the team in
rebounds in both games. Her top effort was a 31-point performance
against Virginia Intermont College, which keyed a 74-73 victory.
For the two games, Jones posted averages of 24.0 points, 7.0
rebounds and 1.0 blocks. She shot 21-of-37 from the field and is now
seven points shy of becoming Monmouth’s third all-time leading
scorer.
Corey Grosskopf of Carroll was also selected as Co-Player of the
Week.
