MONMOUTH, Ill. – A total of 11
student-athletes at Monmouth College have been named to the Academic
All-Midwest Conference team for the winter 2003-04 sports season.
Student-athletes must have achieved at least a 3.2 grade point
average to be eligible for the honor.
The Fighting Scots’ men’s and women’s indoor
track teams led the college in selections with four team members
each. On the men’s side, senior Ryan Moll, Farmington, Ill. (HS)
picked up his third award and sophomores Zach Barr, Roseville, Ill.
(HS), Jason Salmon, Metamora, Ill. (Peoria Notre Dame) and Anthony
Welty, Dixon,Ill. (Newman Central Catholic) were newcomers to the
list. For the Fighting Scots women, senior Elizabeth Altekruse, St.
Charles, Ill. (East) collected her third award and sophomores Abby
Horneck, Hermiston, Ore. (HS), Amy Horneck, Hermiston, Ore. (HS) and
Erin Mann, Monmouth, Ill. (HS) were all first time selections.
The Monmouth men’s basketball team landed
junior Kyle Wilhelm, Grayslake, Ill. (Mundelein) and sophomore Matt
Hammer, Shannon, Ill. (Eastland) on the all-academic team. This was
Wilhelm’s second selection and Hammer’s first. The lone women’s
basketball player to be named to the all-academic team was senior
Marie Webster, Machesney Park, Ill. (Harlem) with her second
selection.
