MONMOUTH, Ill. — Approximately 20 former
Fighting Scots basketball players will be back to campus on Saturday
for the annual alumni game, which will start at 11 a.m. in the
new-look Glennie Gymnasium in the Huff Athletic Center.
The game precedes the Fighting Scots’ slate
of intercollegiate basketball action on Saturday, which includes a
men’s game vs. 10th-ranked Lawrence University at 2 p.m. and a
women’s game vs. Lawrence at approximately 4 p.m.
As of Tuesday, alumni who had committed to
the game include: Bobby Jo Mason ’74, Don Tanney ’79, Rich Well ’85,
Eric Soderholm ’86, Jim Cole ’89, John Herman ’89, Chris Hennemann
’91, Dave Hillis ’92, Shawn Strachan ’92, Jason Segebrecht ’92,
Mario Brown ’93, Lamar Rudd ’95, Michael Blaesing ’96, Derek Archer
’97, Mark Sandstrom ’98, Jeremy Bruce ’99, Trevor Hiel ’99, Steve
Glasgow ’02 and C.J. Hollingsworth ’02.
Cole, Strachan and Sandstrom are all high
school basketball coaches in the area, and Glasgow is the assistant
men’s coach at Monmouth College. Of the 19 players on the list,
eight achieved All-Midwest Conference honors during their basketball
careers at Monmouth, including Tanney, who is a recent inductee into
the M Club Hall of Fame.
The men’s basketball matchup that follows
will feature Lawrence’s Chris Braier, who is currently ranked in the
top three in the nation in rebounds per game. LU’s Claire Getzoff,
who leads the MWC in scoring, will look to lead the Vikings in the
women’s game.
Starting at the same time as the alumni game
is the first-ever indoor track meet at the Huff Athletic Center.
Competing against Monmouth will be Knox College, Central College,
Augustana College and Illinois Wesleyan University.
