MONMOUTH, Ill. – Monmouth College baseball
coach Roger Sander said repeatedly this season that his team had no
stars. Despite his assessment, the Fighting Scots landed eight
players on the All-Midwest Conference team.
Sander was awarded the South Division Coach
of the Year honor for guiding the Scots to the division title and a
22-12 overall mark, and junior pitcher Steve Myros (New Lenox,
Ill./Lincoln-Way) was named the South Division Pitcher of the Year.
Myros, a first team selection, led the Scots
staff with a 2.74 ERA. Joining Myros on the first team was mound
mate Adam Carlson (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way). Carlson, a senior,
and Myros tied for the team lead in wins (6). Carlson also led the
pitching staff in strikeouts (58) and opponent batting average
(.237).
Other first teamers included four juniors –
first baseman Alan Betourne (Washington, Ill./HS), second baseman
Tristan Reimolds (Monmouth, Ill./HS), shortstop Thad King (Loraine,
Ill./ROWVA) and outfielder Steve Turner (Dunlap, Ill./Notre Dame).
Sophomore outfielder Matt Gordon (Abingdon, Ill./HS) picked up his
first postseason honor. King received his third consecutive All-MWC
honor while Betourne, who led the team in batting average (.373),
picked up his second. Reimolds led Monmouth in home runs (5) and
tied Gordon for the lead in RBIs (29).
Sophomore outfielder Jason Salmon (Metamora,
Ill./Notre Dame) picked up his second All-MWC award with his
selection to the second team. He led the Scots in stolen bases and
runs scored.
