MONMOUTH, Ill. – The Monmouth College
baseball and softball teams scored a couple of “Diamond Gems” this
week when baseball’s Adam “AC” Carlson and softball’s Heather “HB”
Burrows were named Midwest Conference Performers of the Week in
their respective sports.
Carlson (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln Way) earned
the honor by pitching the Fighting Scots to a win against South
Division rival Grinnell. The senior right hander had a no-hitter
until an infield single in the bottom of the sixth, which was the
Pioneers’ only hit of the game. Carlson completed the nine-inning
game and recorded the shutout on the strength of six strikeouts and
only three walks.
Burrows (Lewistown, Ill./HS) proved to be a
triple threat as the Scots played six games over a three-day span.
The senior pitcher/shortstop led Monmouth to a 5-1 record for the
week with her hitting, pitching, and fielding. Burrows batted .381
with two doubles, a triple, four runs scored and five batted in. She
also posted a 2-0 record and 2.06 earned run average in three starts
at pitcher and did not commit an error in three-plus games at
shortstop.
A business/economics major, Carlson is the
son of Timothy and Sue Carlson of Frankfort.
Burrows, a sports management major, is the
daughter of Brad Burrows and Toni Burrows, both of Lewistown.
