MC’s Barr is cross country
All-American
Release Date: November 22, 2004
MONMOUTH,
Ill. – Zach Barr (Roseville, Ill./HS) continues to build his legacy
at Monmouth College, bringing home the first All-American honor in
the history of the program from the NCAA
Cross Country National Championships held in Colfax, Wis., Saturday.
Barr’s time of 25:13.5 to finish 26th was more than a minute faster
than his time at nationals last year.
“Zach ran a very intelligent race,” said coach Roger Haynes. “We’re
really pleased with his effort today and feel its appropriate he is
an All-American. He should have many chances to pick up more
All-American titles over the next two years in track and cross
country.”
Barr tied Dan Schisler for the highest finish by a Scots runner at nationals and bettered
Schisler's 1991 record time by 12 seconds. Barr is on pace to equal Schisler’s mark of
three national meet appearances.
A three-time all-conference performer in cross country and previous
national qualifier in track, this is
Barr’s first All-American honor.
