MONMOUTH,
Ill. – Succeeding through adversity sums up the softball career of
Monmouth College senior Nicole Auclair. Despite injuries the past
two years that wiped out a good portion of her season, Auclair’s
credentials were impressive enough to be named to the Academic
All-District V College Division Softball Team.
Auclair, whose career began at Monmouth as a
utility player, was named to the second team by a panel of sports
information directors from District V, which includes Illinois,
Indiana, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and two Canadian provinces.
After playing no less than five positions
her freshman year, in which she batted .420 (one of three Fighting
Scots that year to hit over .400) and scored a team-record 35 runs,
Auclair settled in as the everyday shortstop as a sophomore and
responded with a career-high five home runs. The three-time
All-Conference selection is listed on the honor roll in numerous
offensive categories and holds the career record for hit by pitches
with 14. In her senior season, Auclair led the team in batting
average (.391), RBI (20) and doubles (nine). Her 13 career home runs
rank her third in school history.
Although impressive on the playing field,
Auclair is equally impressive in the classroom. A five-time member
of the Dean’s List, she is also a member of Mortar Board and is a
two-time academic all-conference selection in softball and golf.
A biology/biochemistry major, she is the
daughter of Omer and Janet Auclair of Darien.
