
Monmouth College's Pendergrass
named Academic All-District

MONMOUTH,
Ill. – Epitomizing the Division III student-athlete has earned
Monmouth College volleyball player Molly Pendergrass (Galesburg,
Ill./HS) a postseason honor.
The senior right side hitter been
named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District V College Division first
team and now becomes the fifth student-athlete at Monmouth to make
the national ballot since 2001.
In Pendergrass’ four years with the Fighting Scots, the team
compiled a 90-48 record and topped the 20-win plateau three times,
winning the Midwest Conference South Division this season and taking
third in the MWC tournament.
Pendergrass has challenged nearly every Monmouth offensive record.
She holds the school record for kill attempts in one season, is
second in career kills and kill attempts and third in career block
assists and total blocks.
One of only three seniors for the Scots this season, Pendergrass led
the team in games played, kills, kill attempts, kills per game and
kill percentage and was second in blocks.
“This is a tremendous honor for Molly and for Monmouth College” said
coach Kari Shimmin. “Molly is an excellent role model for the
younger players. She is a fine example of how athletics and
academics can go hand-in-hand. Molly is the type of athlete we
always hope to recruit at Monmouth.”
A two-time all-conference and academic all-conference player, the
accounting/business major is the daughter of Mike and Julie
Pendergrass of Galesburg.
The CoSIDA Academic All-District V team is voted on by sports
information directors from District V, which includes Illinois,
Indiana, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and two Canadian provinces. To be
eligible for the award, an athlete must meet minimum grade point
requirements, have legitimate athletic credentials and be a starter
or important reserve while reaching at least sophomore status.
