MC places 20 athletes on the spring
Academic All-MWC list

MONMOUTH, Ill. – A total of 20 student-athletes at Monmouth College
have been named to the Academic All-Midwest Conference team for the
spring 2005 sports season. Student-athletes who have reached at
least sophomore academic status must have achieved a minimum 3.2
grade point average to be eligible for the honor.
The Fighting Scots’ women’s track and field team led the college in
selections with six team members - juniors Abby Horneck (Hermiston,
Ore./Hermiston) and Amy Horneck (Hermiston, Ore./Hermiston) and
sophomores Audrey Bellefeuille (Highwood, Ill./Highland Park),
Andrea Emery (Knoxville, Ill./Knoxville), Ashley Gaul (Swansea,
Ill./Belleville East) and Joni Nelson (Little York, Ill./Yorkwood).
Monmouth’s baseball team placed six members on the honors list.
Seniors led the way with Thad King (Loraine, Ill./ROWVA), Steve
Myros (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way) and Steve Turner (Dunlap,
Ill./Peoria Notre Dame). Juniors Kevin Meinhart (Hinckley, Ill./Big
Rock), Josh Ragar (Stronghurst, Ill./Southern) and Jason Salmon
(Metamora, Ill./Peoria Notre Dame) rounded out the list.
The men’s track and field team placed four on the academic honors
list. A trio of juniors – Zach Barr (Roseville, Ill./Roseville), Tim
Frank (Farmington, Ill./Farmington) and Anthony Welty (Dixon,
Ill./Newman Central Catholic) – were joined by sophomore Bradley
Franks (Aledo, Ill./Aledo).
The men’s golf team was represented by sophomores Justin Martin
(Monmouth, Ill./Warren ) and Lee Radford (Orion, Ill./Orion).
Softball and men’s tennis rounded out the honorees. From softball,
sophomore Jackie Hennenfent (Wataga, Ill./ROWVA) joined men’s tennis
classmate Alex Carter (Wilton, Iowa/Wilton) as first time academic
all-conference winners.
