Release Date: May 9, 2005
MONMOUTH, Ill. — Kyle Cook of Spoon
River Valley High School has announced his plans to attend Monmouth
College in the fall and continue his athletic career as a member of
the Fighting Scots basketball team.
“We’re very pleased to have a player who many think is one of the
top two or three players in west central Illinois commit to Monmouth
College,” said Scots’ coach Terry Glasgow. “Kyle has all the
requisite skills to be an outstanding college basketball player. He
has good size, jumps well, has good quickness and has the ability to
play both inside and outside.”
Playing for the North Fulton co-op, the 6-foot-4 senior averaged 20
points, eight rebounds and four assists during his senior season. He
has twice been named to the All-Prairieland Conference team, and he
was selected as an All-Area player by the Galesburg Register-Mail
and the Canton Daily Ledger.
“Kyle is a hard-nosed player who has been well-coached in high
school, and he’s the prototype student-athlete,” added Glasgow, who
has coached the men’s basketball team to 451 victories over the past
33 years. “He comes to Monmouth with his priorities in order. He is
a fine student who has a great desire to not only be successful in
the classroom but on the basketball court as well.”
Cook’s high school coach, Dave Gilliland, said, “Kyle matured into
an excellent basketball player. He is versatile in that he can score
in a multitude of ways – jump shooting, driving and slashing to the
basket and hitting the boards. He is extremely unselfish – a superb
passer with very good court sense. With continued work on his jump
shot, Kyle can make an impact at Monmouth College for Coach
Glasgow.”
