MONMOUTH, Ill. – A pair of
record-setting accomplishments has resulted in Midwest Conference
Performer of the Week honors for two Monmouth College football
players.
Senior linebacker Justin Zigler (Prophetstown, Ill./Prophetstown)
and sophomore kicker/punter Nathan Palkovic (Peoria, Ill./Woodruff)
each set school records in a 40-26 season-opening win over Concordia
(Wis.) and picked up the MWC Defensive Performer of the Week and
Special Team Performer of the Week honor, respectively.
Zigler’s 15 total tackles (7 solos, 8 assists) eclipsed the old
career tackle record of 259 set by Justin Orertle. In reaching the
new high water mark, Zigler also forced and recovered a fumble and
made two tackles for loss.
Palkovic proved his 58 yard field goal in practice was no fluke when
he nailed a school-record 45 yarder to give the Scots a 40-6 lead in
the fourth quarter. He also had a 26-yard field goal in the second
quarter and finished the day 4-of-5 on PATs. The sophomore had a
good day punting, too, averaging 39.8 yards.
