Scots’ Haffner named MWC Performer
of the Week
Release Date: September 20, 2005
MONMOUTH,
Ill. – It’s three in a row for the Monmouth College football team.
Junior wide receiver Evan Haffner (Canton, Ill./Canton) has been
named the Midwest Conference Offensive Performer of the Week,
marking the third straight week a member of the Fighting Scots has
received the POW honor from the league office.
Haffner helped the Fighting Scots to a 28-20 victory over six-time
defending MWC champion St. Norbert last weekend in Wisconsin. His 16
receptions shattered the previous mark of 12 set by Terry Schneider
in 1968, and his 190 receiving yards, which included a 72 yard TD
reception, is fourth best all-time.
Haffner also added 58 kick return yards, 28 punt return yards and
eight yards rushing. His 284 all-purpose yards put him second in
that category.
The win was Monmouth’s first over St. Norbert since 1996 and puts
them in position to control their own destiny for the league title
and the automatic NCAA playoff berth that goes with it.
An education/physical education major, Haffner is the son of Gerald
and Sharon Haffner of Canton.
