MONMOUTH, Ill. -- Monmouth College
senior quarterback Mitch Tanney (Lexington, Ill./Lexington) has been
named to the national Team of the Week by both D3football.com and
Football Gazette.Tanney, who is currently the top-ranked quarterback in Division III
with an efficiency rating of 192.86, was 21-of-23 for a
school-record 405 yards and five touchdowns in last Saturday's 48-0
victory over Knox. The win clinched a 10-0 regular season for the
Fighting Scots, who are idle this weekend as they await the Sunday
announcement of their first-round opponent in the NCAA playoffs.
Tanney's 91.3 completion percentage
in the victory tied the NCAA Division III record for quarterbacks
with at least 20 completions in a game. He has now completed 74.4
percent of his passes, which would be an NCAA record if the season
ended today. During the game, he also surpassed the minimum 325
completions needed to qualify for the career pass efficiency mark.
He is fourth all-time in Division III in that category.
