MC’s Goranson named to national
‘Team of the Week’
Release Date: September 21, 2005
MONMOUTH,
Ill. — Monmouth College freshman defensive lineman Anthony Goranson
(Poplar Grove, Ill./Belvidere) was named to the 22-man “Team of the
Week” by D3football.com for his performance in the Fighting Scots’
landmark 28-20 victory at St. Norbert College last Saturday.
The Scots have been denied Midwest Conference titles in three of the
past four seasons thanks to six-time defending champ St. Norbert
but, with Goranson’s help, Monmouth turned the tide this year.
Goranson was in on seven tackles, and six of them were for loss,
pushing the Green Knights backward a total of 30 yards. None was
bigger than his tackle in the backfield of Casey Meehan on SNC’s
final drive of the game. He added three sacks on the day for minus
23 yards.
Goranson was joined on the Team of the Week by another MWC player,
Beloit running back Lee Rankinen, who gained 246 yards against Lake
Forest. Goranson and Rankinen will meet this weekend at Monmouth’s
Bobby Woll Memorial Field as the Scots host the Bucs at 1:30 p.m.
