Rundle, Greene move up the national
track and field charts
Release Date: April 18, 2005
MONMOUTH, Ill. — Monmouth College’s
Tyler Rundle and Albert Greene threw their hats into the ring as
All-American candidates at the Lee Calhoun Invitational at Western
Illinois University on Saturday.
Both athletes turned in runner-up performances at the meet and are
now ranked eighth in the nation in their respective events. Greene
triple jumped 46’7-1/2 to close within an inch of his personal best,
while Rundle completed one lap of the track in 48.32 seconds for a
400-meter dash time that has only been topped at Monmouth by
All-Americans Charles Burton and Keenan King.
Rundle added an anchor leg of 47.9 seconds as the Scots placed third
in the 4x400, and he was also part of the Scots’ third-place 4x100
squad.
Greene and Rundle were the stars of a meet that otherwise was
“pretty average,” according to MC coach Roger Haynes, who added,
“You’re going to have a medium meet at some point in the season, and
we hope this was it.”
Overall, the Fighting Scots men placed second out of six teams,
while the women took fourth out of 11. Besides WIU, other big
schools in attendance included Illinois State University, Northern
Illinois University, Chicago State University and Memphis
University.
“It was good to see some different competition, but I feel like we
didn’t prepare ourselves as well as we could have,” said Haynes.
Anthony Welty set a school record in the 3000-meter run, winning the
event in 8:55.43, and teammate Aaron Etienne was second in a
personal-best 9:18.01. The Scots’ Audrey Bellefeuille won the
women’s 3000-meter run in 12:05.69, while Zach Barr was second in
the 5000-meter run with a PR of 15:15.78. He was the first
collegiate runner to finish the event.
In the hurdles, Blake Boma won the 400-meter race in 54.28, while
Brandon Hurckes was third in the 110s (15.61).
Christina Reiner and Megan McKenna both cleared 10’4 in the pole
vault to place third and fourth, respectively. For McKenna, the
height was a personal best. Reiner, McKenna and Amy Horneck had a
5-6-7 finish in the triple jump, with Reiner (34’9-1/2) and McKenna
(34’5-3/4) turning in PRs.
Tim Frank cleared a personal-best 6’7 to take second place in the
high jump, one spot ahead of teammate Evan Harrison (6’3-1/4). Alex
Stuart was second in the javelin (167’3) and Peter Sprecher was
third in the pole vault (14’7-1/4).
Some of Monmouth’s other PRs on the day came from Tiffanie York in
the 5000-meter run (19:31.49), Kelly Caruso in the pole vault
(9’4-1/4), Jen Babos in the shot put (36’3) and discus (119’3), Jeff
Rebholz (141’6) and Zach Wilson (137’2) in the hammer and Kel Bond
in the 800-meter run (1:54.19).
