Two QHS tennis stars headed to
Monmouth
Release Date: June 9, 2005
MONMOUTH, Ill. -- Two main cogs in
Quincy High School’s sectional tennis title this spring, Eric
Brandhorst and Kyle Korb, have chosen to enroll at Monmouth College
this fall and play tennis for the Fighting Scots.
Monmouth tennis coach Chad Braun, who just completed his second
season, has the program on a steep rise after a 10-year layoff. The
Scots missed qualifying for the conference tournament by just one
match this year despite not having a senior on the roster. Braun
believes Brandhorst and Korb can take the program to the next level.
“I am thrilled to get these two great additions,” said Braun. “I
anticipate them playing high on our roster. They had tremendous high
school careers and I look forward to them making our team better.”
Brandhorst is a three-time state qualifier, winning two matches at
the state tournament his senior year and posting a 40-17 overall
record. He finished second in singles at the sectional level in each
of the last two years. This year’s Western Big 6 Conference singles
champion, Brandhorst will join 2004 champion Brandon Stacey
(Galesburg) on the Scots' roster.
Korb, like Brandhorst, was a four-year varsity player for the Blue
Devils. Korb posted a 44-14 record this year at No. 2 singles and
No. 1 doubles. After a second place doubles finish in the conference
tournament, Korb made it two straight sectional doubles titles this
spring, losing just seven games in four matches. His doubles team
won three matches at state this year.
