Release Date: June 2, 2005
MONMOUTH, Ill. -- Roseville’s Emily
Colclasure and United’s Anna Damos will be among the incoming
freshmen this fall for Monmouth College volleyball coach Kari
Shimmin.
Colclasure, a steady setter for Roseville/Yorkwood during their
exciting state quarterfinals appearance last season, is 16th on the
all-time IHSA list with 2,019 assists. Last season she tallied 774
assists while chipping in 52 kills, 152 digs and 30 aces for
Bearcats coach Kara Harper.
Shimmin, entering her eighth season with a 149-91 record at
Monmouth, minces no words when speaking of Colclasure, who was named
to the Peoria Journal Star All-Area team.
“Emily Colclasure is the top setter in our area,” said Shimmin.
“Kara Harper has trained Emily to be a confident and highly-skilled
setter. She will make a positive impact on our program.”
Damos comes to Monmouth after a stellar high school career as a
four-year starter. She helped Alexis to back-to-back regional titles
and led United to a regional crown last fall. She piled up 162 digs,
30 aces, 42 blocks and an impressive 226 kills during her senior
season.
“Anna Damos is one of the top hitters in our area,” said Shimmin.
“She is a quality athlete that has been part of United’s successful
volleyball program. I am excited that she has chosen to attend
Monmouth College.”
The salutatorian for her graduating class, Damos was selected as
athletic and academic Lincoln Trail All-Conference. She was also
selected to the All-Area teams for the Rock Island Argus, Galesburg
Register Mail and Monmouth Daily Review Atlas.
The Fighting Scots, who finished 22-12 last year, open the varsity
season at home Sept. 1 versus MacMurray.
