MONMOUTH, Ill. – For the first time since 2001, a pair of Monmouth College basketball players have been honored for their athletic and academic excellence by ESPN.

Men’s senior guard Chris Hebeler (Fulton, Ill./Fulton) and women’s sophomore center Ashley Yeast (Sciota, Ill./West Prairie) were named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V College Division first and second teams, respectively.

Hebeler will now be placed on the national ballot for ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American. Only first team All-District selections are included on the national ballot.

A three-time Dean’s List recipient, Hebeler leads the Fighting Scots in assists (72) and steals (21); is second in 3-point field goals (42), 3-point percentage (41%) and free throws (34); and is third in points (214), scoring average (11.3) and defensive rebounds (72). He also holds the school record for 3-pointers in a game (12) and is eighth on the honor roll for points in a game (38).

Yeast, also a three-time Dean’s List recipient, leads the team in rebounds (245), rebounding average (11.7), offensive (78) and defensive rebounds (167), steals (47) and blocked shots (7) and is second on the team in points (233) and scoring average (11.1). She leads the Midwest Conference with 12 double-doubles this season. Her 11.7 rpg ranks her 11th nationally and her 12.5 rpg in league play ranks her first in the MWC. Yeast’s selection marks the first time in school history a sophomore has been named Academic All-District.

The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V team is voted on by sports information directors from District V, which includes Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Wisconsin and two Canadian provinces. Athletes must earn a minimum 3.20 cumulative GPA, have achieved at least sophomore status at their respective school and be a starter or key reserve in order to be nominated for the post-season honor. Only first team all-district athletes are eligible to be placed on the national ballot.

Hebeler is the son of Ron and Pam Hebeler of Fulton.

Yeast is the daughter of Stephen and Judy Yeast of Sciota.
