MONMOUTH, Ill. – The Monmouth
College baseball team’s conference started off with a bang as senior
pitcher Dan Dunn (Mapleton, Ill./Illini Bluffs) tossed a no-hitter
and sophomore shortstop Ryan Priola (St. Charles, Ill./East) had a
clutch Saturday. The Fighting Scots pair earned the Midwest
Conference Pitcher and Performer of the Week honors, respectively.
Dunn picked up his second honor this season, firing an extra inning
no-hitter as the Scots downed Grinnell 2-1 in the opener of a
twinbill at Glasgow Field. The right-hander fanned nine and walked
one, allowing just one unearned run. Dunn began the game by hitting
the first batter, but settled in to toss the Scots’ second no-hitter
in the last two seasons. He improved to 4-2 on the year and lowered
his ERA to 2.72.
Priola made the most of his hits last week, driving in five runs
against Eureka with a pair of homers. Against Grinnell, he delivered
a two-run single in the nightcap to propel the Scots to a 3-1 win
and the sweep. He is hitting at a .352 clip this spring and his 19
RBI ranks him second in the conference.
A physical education major, Dunn is the son of Teri Dunn of Mapleton
and Dennis Dunn of Hanna City.
Priola, a business major, is the son of Joe and Lori Priola of St.
Charles.
