by Midwest Conference
Release Date: November 15, 2006
MONMOUTH, Ill. – A 7-2 conference
mark helped the Monmouth College football team land a dozen players
on the All-Midwest Conference team, including senior running back
Dante Daniels (Waukegan, Ill/Gurnee-Warren), who was tabbed as the
Offensive Player of the Year in a vote of the league coaches.
Daniels set the school rushing record with 1,557 yards in becoming
the first 1,000-yard rusher for the Fighting Scots since 1993. He
also set the high-water mark for a single game (247), and his 1,689
all-purpose yards is a school record as well.
Joining Daniels on the first team offensive unit are three other
seniors – tight end Shane Gordon (Abingdon, Ill./Abingdon), wide
receiver and return specialist Evan Haffner (Canton, Ill./Canton),
and offensive lineman Joe Freitag (Springfield, Ill./Sacred
Heart-Griffin).
Sophomore defensive lineman Wes Levy (Plano, Ill/Yorkville) rounded
out the Fighting Scots’ first team selections.
Junior kicker Nate Palkovic (Peoria, Ill./Woodruff) was the lone
Scot to be named to the second team offensive unit. He was 30-of-31
on PAT tries.
Two seniors and a junior were named to the defensive second team.
Senior defensive lineman Zach Kirchner (Rochester, Ill./Sacred
Heart-Griffin) and classmate Jason Goldsworthy (South Beloit,
Ill./South Beloit) at linebacker were joined by junior defensive
back Aaron Payettte (Shannon, Ill./Eastland).
Junior offensive lineman Joe Pilger (Macomb, Ill./Macomb) was named
to the offensive honorable mention squad. Defensively, senior
linebacker Phil Kleckler (Rockford, Ill./Hononegah) and sophomore
defensive lineman Anthony Goranson (Poplar Grove, Ill./Belvidere)
completed the Scots’ all-conference selections.
