MONMOUTH, Ill. – Another record-setting year for the Monmouth College football team has resulted in the Scots’ Dante Daniels (Waukegan, Ill./Gurnee-Warren) and Joe Freitag (Springfield, Ill./Sacred Heart-Griffin) picking up honors from D3football.com.

Daniels was named to the Web site’s All-West Region second team. The senior running back set a plethora of school records this season including single-season rushing yardage (1,557), most games over 200 yards (5), single-game yardage (247) and all-purpose yards in a season (1,689). He was previously named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American first team and District V first team. A two-time all-conference performer, Daniels was also named the Midwest Conference Offensive Player of the Year.

A three-time all-conference selection, senior offensive tackle Joe Freitag was selected to the D3football.com’s All-West Region third team. At left tackle, Frietag helped the offensive line block for the record-setting Daniels. The offensive line allowed a miniscule nine sacks this season, ranking them second all-time in school history. Only the 1989 squad allowed fewer sacks (2).

Monmouth averaged over 25 points per game and more than 321 offensive yards per game. In the last two seasons, the Scots posted a 17-4 record, winning the Midwest Conference title in 2005 and making their first appearance in the NCAA playoffs that year.
