MC’s Daniels sets record, named MWC
Performer of the Week
Release Date: September 19, 2006
MONMOUTH,
Ill. – Monmouth College senior running back Dante Daniels (Waukegan,
Ill./Gurnee-Warren) rushed for a school-record 229 yards against
Beloit College Saturday and was rewarded for his efforts with his
second consecutive Midwest Conference Offensive Performer of the
Week honor.
A week after missing the school rushing record by 13 yards, Daniels
broke loose for his career-high to best the school record of 223
yards set by Monmouth College Hall of Famer Ron Baker in 1973. The
senior tailback averaged nearly eight yards per carry on his
record-setting day. His 178.3 yards per game leads the league in
rushing average and is fourth nationally. After three games, Daniels
is more than halfway to the 1,000 yard mark and is on pace to become
the Scots’ first 1,000 yard back since Kevin Matarelli ran for 1,175
yards during the 1993 season.
