Scots open track season with
several winning efforts
Release Date: January 24, 2006
MONMOUTH, Ill. In his opening
comments about his Monmouth College track teams, coach Roger Haynes
mentioned that he had three basic groups of performers this season
established stars, veterans ready to emerge and newcomers.
Fighting Scots from each of the latter two groups had the best
performances in Saturdays season-opening meet at Knox College, as
sophomore thrower Zach Wilson and freshman sprinter Ashley Widdop
looked strong.
We were reasonably good overall, but we saw a lot of places to
improve, said Haynes of the triangular meet, which also included
Cornell. It was a good first meet, but we have some rapid progress
to make in some areas.
Wilson already looked to be in late season form in the weight throw,
moving up to third on the MC honor roll with his winning effort of
518-1/2. He also placed second in the shot put.
Widdop got her collegiate track career off to a great start, winning
the 55-meter dash (7.79) and 200-meter dash (28.58) and taking
second in the 55-meter hurdles.
Another two-time winner for the Scots was Jen Babos in the shot put
(373-3/4) and weight throw (3911-1/4). Other winners included
Dante Daniels in the 55-meter dash (6.68), Tyler Rundle in the
200-meter dash (22.71), Anthony Welty in the1500-meter run
(4:11.41), Kel Bond in the 3000-meter run (9:08.57), Tim Frank in
the high jump (61-1/2), Jonny Henkins in the pole vault (149),
Albert Greene in the long jump (215-1/2), Alex Stuart in the triple
jump (4310-3/4), Jeff Rebholz in the shot put (472-1/2) and Andrea
Emery in the high jump (49-3/4).
Monmouth won all four relays, which included two victories for
Rundle and Brad Gross, who teamed with Bradley Franks and Daniels to
win the 4x200 (1:31.80) and Jordan Slee and Tim Meredith on the top
4x400 squad (3:29.95). Katey Vaccarello and Jacquie Ouart won twice
for the women, joining Christina Reiner and Megan McKenna on the
first place 4x200 team (1:55.95) and Abby Horneck and Sara Ingersoll
on the No. 1 4x400 squad (4:25.15).
Posting seconds for the men were Franks in the 55-meter dash,
Daniels in the 200-meter dash, Welty in the 800-meter run, Aaron
Etienne in the 1500-meter run, Darin VanNattan in the 3000-meter
run, Brandon Hurckes in the 55-meter hurdles, Peter Sprecher in the
