MC’s Welty named Academic
All-District

MONMOUTH,
Ill. – Monmouth College senior Anthony Welty (Dixon, Ill./Newman
Central Catholic) was honored for his athletic and academic
excellence by being named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic
All-District V College Division second team in track and field/cross
country.
A seven-time Dean’s List recipient, Welty received a second team
selection in 2004. This spring he was named Academic All-American by
the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Welty has earned six indoor and outdoor track and cross country
all-conference honors and eight academic all-conference selections.
A business and public relations major, Welty delivered the senior
class farewell address at Monmouth’s 149th commencement exercises
May 14.
The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V team is voted on by
sports information directors from District V, which includes
Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Wisconsin and two Canadian provinces.
Athletes must earn a minimum 3.20 cumulative GPA, have achieved at
least sophomore status at their respective school and be a starter
or key reserve in order to be nominated for the post-season honor.
Only first team all-district athletes are eligible to be placed on
the national ballot.
Welty is the son of Joseph and Jean Welty of Dixon.
