Four Monmouth College Athletes
Named All-Midwest Conference

MONMOUTH, Ill. – The Monmouth
College women’s and men’s soccer teams each placed two members on
the All-Midwest Conference team by a vote of the league coaches.
The Fighting Scots women had the lone first team selection. Senior
defender Kristin Mertel (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Hoffman Estates) led
the Fighting Scots in assists (7) and was the second-leading scorer
in goals (9) and points (25). Her 63 games played ranks her second
in school history, and she was instrumental on a defensive unit that
set a school record allowing just 1.30 goals per game.
Freshman forward Christa Davidson (Godfrey, Ill./Alton) was named to
the second team. She led Monmouth in goals (13) and points (31).
On the men’s side, seniors Sam Beciri (Carbon Cliff, Ill./East
Moline) at forward and goalkeeper Brad Hofmann (Plainfield,
Ind./Plainfield) were named to the second team.
Beciri led the Scots in assists (7) and points (15). He was tied for
the team lead in goals (4). His three assists against Carroll
College tied the school record for assists in a game.
Hofmann completed his career at Monmouth with 413 saves, ranking him
second all-time. His 143 saves in 2004 is a school record.
Mertel picked up her second all-conference honor. Davidson, Beciri
and Hofmann were first-time selections.
