MONMOUTH, Ill. – For the first time since the 1999-2000 season,
three Monmouth College players have been named to the All-Midwest
Conference women’s basketball team.
Leading the nation in rebounding wasn’t overlooked by the league
coaches, who tabbed junior center Ashley Yeast (Sciota, Ill./West
Prairie) to the first team for the second consecutive year. Yeast
led the nation in rebounding average (13.7) and set the school
records for single-game (21) and season (315) rebounds. Her rebound
average mark is also a school record. She is third in career
rebounds (760), just 49 boards shy of the women’s record. Her 12.5
scoring average was third for the Scots and her 50-percent field
goal accuracy was second.
Senior forward Laura Jahn (Palos Park, Ill./Stagg) and sophomore
guard Melissa Gorski (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove)
received their first post-season league honors by being named to the
second team.
Jahn led the Scots in scoring (339) and average (14.7). Her 783
points ranks her 10th in school history. She was second on the Scots
in rebounding (142) and her 80-percent free throw shooting was
third.
Gorksi led the team with 82.6-percent free throw accuracy and was
second on the team in scoring average (14.1). Her free throw mark
set a school record for accuracy from the charity stripe. She also
paced the Scots with 58 assists.
The Fighting Scots finished the season 12-11 for their first winning
season since the 1999-2000 campaign.
