Monmouth’s dominance at the Midwest Conference track meets has
spilled over to the Performer of the Week selections as senior Jeff
Rebholz (Henry, Ill./Henry), junior Jessica White (Galesburg,
Ill./Galesburg) and sophomores Luke Reschke (Geneseo, Ill./Geneseo)
and Shannon Turczyn (Peru, Ill./LaSalle-Peru) swept this week’s POW
awards.
Rebholz took the men’s field honors after last week’s Benedictine
Invitational. His 54’5-1/4" throw in the shot put placed him first
at the meet and moved him to fourth nationally. He then heaved the
discus 154’4", just 18" shy of the national provisional qualifying
mark while finishing second. His captured fifth in the hammer throw
with a mark of 150’1". He currently has the best marks in the league
in the shot put, discus and hammer throw.
Reschke was the men’s track winner with outstanding performances
in two relays. The 4x100 and 4x400 teams each took first at the
meet. The 4x100 was a hundredth of a second off their season best.
He also ran a league-best 48.81 in the 400-meter dash to take first
in the event.
White vaulted her way to next month’s national track meet with a
school-record and automatic-qualifying pole vault of 12’5-3/4". Her
first place finish resulted in her women’s field POW honor.
Turczyn captured the women’s track honor with a first-place
finish in the 100-meter hurdles in a provisional qualifying time of
14.70. The mark moves her into the top 10 nationally and is the best
in the MWC.
