MONMOUTH, Ill. – Monmouth College’s
Kurt Niemeier (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) and Annie Lane (St.
Louis, Mo./Kirkwood) made quite a splash in the pool during the
first meet of 2007 and were rewarded with the Midwest Conference
Performer of the Week in men’s and women’s swimming, respectively.
Niemeier took firsts in the 50- and 100-yard freestyles and anchored
two winning relays. The junior’s performance helped the Fighting
Scots defeat Principia College 159-73.
Lane swam personal-bests in the 200-yard freestyle (2:04.48) and
200-yard backstroke (2:21.34). The freshman also finished first in
the 100-yard butterfly and swam the lead leg of the winning 200-yard
medley relay. Her efforts led the Scots women to their first dual
meet victory of the year with a 131-105 win over Principia.
The MWC Performer of the Week honor was the first for Niemeier and
Lane.
