Area athletes will have a unique opportunity to receive instruction
from one of the elite track programs in the nation July 9-12 when
Roger Haynes and his staff conducts an evening track and field and
cross country camp at Monmouth College.
Open to boys and girls entering grades 7-12, the camp will
provide instruction on the theory and techniques in competing in a
variety of events. Video will be used to help the athletes see the
proper form for each event.
Fighting Scots athletes will help provide instruction for the
camp, which costs $40 if paid prior to July 1. Registration after
July 1 is $45. Teams may receive a discount when registering as
groups of three or more.
To register for the camp, call 309-457-2177 weekdays or e-mail
rogerh@monm.edu. More
information on the camp is available at the college’s Web site at

Under the leadership of Haynes, who was named the National
Division III Coach of the Year in March, Monmouth’s track program
has produced more than 150 All-Americans and five national
champions, including pole vaulter Peter Sprecher in 2007. Also this
year, Monmouth’s men placed sixth in the nation indoors and brought
home an NCAA trophy as the third place team outdoors. The Fighting
Scots men’s track team has won seven consecutive outdoor Midwest
Conference team titles while the women have won seven times in the
last eight years.
