Three Fighting Scots track and field athletes have been named to the
United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA)
All-Academic Team.
Senior Megan Clennon (Aurora, Ill./West) and junior Shannon
Turczyn (Peru, Ill./LaSalle-Peru) were named to the women’s team and
sophomore Clay Staley (Hanna City, Ill./Illini Bluffs) made the
men's team. To be selected, athletes must have a cumulative grade
point average of at least 3.25 and must have met the NCAA Division
III Indoor or Outdoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard
in their event.
For the second consecutive year, Clennon qualified for the
national outdoor meet in the high jump where she earned All-American
honors with an eighth-place finish. The psychology major picked up
her first USTFCCCA all-academic honor.
A psychology and education double major, Turczyn was named to the
USTFCCCA all-academic team for the third time. She qualified for the
55-meter hurdles at the indoor national meet for the second straight
year. Her fifth-place finish outdoors in the 100-meter hurdles this
spring was the junior's third consecutive outdoor All-American
performance. She broke her own school record twice at the national
meet.
Named to the USTFCCCA’s all-academic team in cross country last
fall, this is Staley’s second selection in track and field. He
qualified outdoors in the steeplechase this spring after running a
provisional time but missing the cut for the national meet as a
freshman in 2007. Staley is majoring in biology.
