MONMOUTH, Ill. —
The Monmouth College men’s and women’s track teams posted the
nation’s top marks in three events and set five school records in
their final tuneup before this weekend’s NCAA Division III national
indoor track and field championships in Ada, Ohio.
Competing at the UW-Stevens Point Last Chance qualifier Saturday,
the Monmouth men finished fourth and the women fifth in team
competition, but it was the individual performances the Scots were
most interested in. Jessica White, Peter Sprecher and Zach Wilson
posted the nation’s best marks while winning their signature events.
White continued her dominance in the pole vault, breaking her own
school record while winning the event and improving her automatic
qualifying height with a nation’s best height of 12’7-11/2. Sprecher
mirrored White’s performance, winning the men’s pole vault while
breaking his school record and improving his automatic qualifying
mark with the top vault in the nation at 17’1-1/2. After weeks of
being close, Wilson recorded the best weight throw in the nation
while winning the event with a school record throw of 62’3-1/2.
Jenny Babos broke her own school record in the weight throw and
improved her provisional mark to finish second (52’9-1/2). Gloria
Lehr took 13th (41’4-1/2).
The men’s 4x400 relay team of Jacob Stott, Brad Gross, Logan Hohl
and Luke Reschke rounded out the record-setting day with a new
school record. The foursome improved on their provisional qualifying
time to finish third (3:17.39). They are one second off the pace of
national leader Nebraska Wesleyan.
Shannon Turczyn improved her provisional time in the women’s
55-meter hurdle prelims (8.36). She took second in the finals
(8.42).
Other Scots who recorded points were: Jonny Henkins, second in the
men’s pole vault (16’0-1/2); Clay Staley, second in the 5000-meters
(15:36.14), Wilson, third in the men’s shot put (51’3-3/4); Lehr and
Babos, 4-5 in the women’s shot (41’6 and 40’9-3/4, respectively);
Adam Rodriguez, sixth in the mile (4:29.87); Logan Hohl seventh in
the men’s 55 hurdles (7.90) and Aaron Daverin, 20th in the
400-meters (52.20). Whitney Dider tied for fourth in the women’s
pole vault (10’10).
