Two more Scots earn All-American status, Scots men in second

Release Date:  May 23, 2008

OSHKOSH, Wis. – Two seniors earned All-American status for the Monmouth College track team on the second day of competition at the NCAA Division III outdoor championships at Oshkosh, Wis., bringing their All-American total this week to five.

Zach Wilson’s (Lacon, Ill./Midland) 179’10 mark in the hammer throw placed him sixth and earned the senior his first outdoor All-American honor to go with two indoor awards. Classmate Megan Clennon (Aurora, Ill./West) gained All-American status outdoors for the second year in a row. She finished in a tie for eighth in the high jump clearing 5’4-1/2.

Two juniors earned spots in Saturday’s finals. Shannon Turczyn (Peru, Ill./LaSalle-Peru) broke her own school record in the prelims of the women’s 100-meter hurdles. She clocked the day’s third-fastest time, turning in a 14.18 to better her own school mark by more than a tenth of a second. Luke Reschke (Geneseo, Ill./Geneseo) punched his ticket to the finals in the men’s 400-meter dash. His time of 48.03 was also the third-fastest time of the day.

Sophomore Clay Staley placed 16th in the men’s steeplechase with a time of 9:32.40. Jenny Babos’ hammer throw of 147’5 failed to qualify the senior for the finals.

The Fighting Scots schedule for Saturday finds Babos competing in the women’s shot put at noon; Turczyn in the finals of the women’s 100-meter hurdles at 1:45 p.m.; and Reschke running in the finals of the men’s 400-meter dash at 2:20 p.m.

Monmouth’s men are in second place in the team standings entering the final day. Their 16 points puts them three points behind St. Thomas. The Scots women are tied for 19th with six points.
