Seven track Scots earn All-American status

Release Date:  May 24, 2008

OSHKOSH, Wis. – Juniors Luke Reschke (Geneseo, Ill./Geneseo) and Shannon Turczyn (Peru, Ill./LaSalle-Peru) joined national pole vault champion Jonny Henkins (Kewanee, Ill./Kewanee) and four other Monmouth College track athletes as All-Americans after the final day of the NCAA Division III outdoor championships held in Oshkosh, Wis.

Reschke claimed his third outdoor All-American award and sixth overall, placing third in the men’s 400-meter dash finals. He shaved four-tenths of a second off his preliminary time from Friday to finish in 47.63, the third-fastest time in school history.

Turczyn earned her third straight outdoor All-American award in the 100-meter hurdles. She clocked a 14.24 in the finals to place fifth. Turczyn had set the new school record of 14.18 during Friday’s prelims.

Jenny Babos’ competed in her third event of the meet Saturday. The senior’s shot put of 42’6-3/4 failed to qualify her for the finals.

The Scots crowned three of their seven All-Americans on Thursday’s opening day.

Henkins won the pole vault (16’7-1/4), becoming the first two-time national champion at Monmouth. Peter Sprecher (Canton, Ill./Canton), last year’s outdoor champion, placed sixth (15’5-1/2). Women’s vaulter, Jessica White (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) tied for third while tying her own school record (12’6-1/4) for the second time this season. The trio each earned their second All-American honors outdoors and fourth overall.

Two other field event seniors earned All-American status on Friday.

Zach Wilson’s (Lacon, Ill./Midland) sixth place finish in the hammer throw (179’10) earned him his first outdoor All-American honor to go with two indoor awards. Megan Clennon (Aurora, Ill./West) gained All-American status outdoors for the second year in a row. She finished in a tie for eighth in the high jump (5’4-1/2).

Monmouth’s men placed 10th in the team competition with 22 points. The Scots women scored 10 points to tie for 25th.
