MONMOUTH, Ill. —
The meet results confirmed it – the Monmouth College men’s
track team is second in the nation.
The Fighting Scots further proved that they are one of the elite
teams in the nation by picking up the second-place team trophy from the NCAA
Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships held Friday and
Saturday in Ada, Ohio. The Scots, who took sixth at last year’s
indoor meet and followed that with a third-place finish in the
outdoor season, had their best team finish in school history with
the runner-up
performance this weekend. Monmouth led after the first day of
competition but UW-La Crosse passed the Scots on Day 2 to win the
meet 43-33. Monmouth finished 12 points ahead of Wisconsin schools
Platteville and Oshkosh, who tied for third.
Junior sprinter Luke Reschke had a big hand in the Scots’ strong
showing, collecting his fourth and fifth All-American honors on
Saturday. Reschke clocked a second-place finish of 49.51 in the 400-meter
dash, then teamed with Logan Hohl,
Brad Gross and Jacob Stott in the 4x400 relay, which placed fourth with a time of
3:22.22. Senior thrower Zach Wilson’s 51’4-1/2 mark in the shot put
failed to advance him to the finals.
Women’s pole vaulter Jessica White cleared a personal-best 12’4 to
finish third, making her a three-time All-American, a day after
men’s three-time pole vault All-American Jonny Henkins won the
national title by tying his personal-best height of 16’9-1/2.
Also Friday, Peter Sprecher, last year’s outdoor pole vault
champion, took fifth, just four inches behind Henkins’ winning height, to also
achieve his third All-American honor. Wilson added to the
All-American parade for the Scots, taking third in the weight throw
with a toss of 61’0-3/4.
Hohl just missed the 55-meter hurdle finals with a time of
7.78. Women’s hurdler Shannon Turczyn failed to make Saturday’s
finals with a time of 8.39.
