MONMOUTH, Ill. —
Monmouth College has its first indoor national champion and
the fourth in four years overall after the first day of the NCAA
Division III national indoor track meet at Ada, Oho.
Senior pole vaulter Jonny Henkins can add “national champion” to his
resume after clearing 16’9-1/2 to win the vault. Classmate Peter
Sprecher, last year’s outdoor champion, took fifth just 4” behind
Henkins winning height to also achieve All-American status. Fellow
senior, Zach Wilson added to the All-American parade for the Scots,
taking third in the weight throw with a toss of 61’0-3/4.
Junior sprinter Luke Reschke posted a 49.58 in the 400 meters to
qualify for Saturday’s finals. Freshman Logan Hohl just missed the
55 hurdle finals with a time of 7.78. Women’s hurdler, Shannon
Turczyn, failed to make Saturday’s finals with a time of 8.39.
Three All-American performances helped the Scots’ men post 20 team
points to lead the nation at the midway point. UW-Platteville stands
13 points back heading into Saturday’s final day. Jessica White will
put her national best pole vault mark to the test on Day 2. Wilson
is scheduled to compete in the shot put and the men’s 4x400 relay
team of Hohl, Reschke, Jacob Stott and Brad Gross will run the final
event of the meet.
