Football team helps residents clean house
Release Date:
March 20, 2009
MONMOUTH, Ill. —
The Monmouth College
football team’s unbeaten regular season and advancement to the
second round of the NCAA playoffs last fall meant only one thing for
Steve Bell and his staff – they needed to clean house.
This house
cleaning doesn’t involve removing personnel. Instead, Bell’s players
have set aside April 18 as a day to volunteer their manpower to help
Monmouth residents clean their homes. The Monmouth College Football
1st Annual Community Cleanup Day is seen as a way for the football
team to become involved in the community.
“We want our
players to know that there is more to life than just football,” said
Bell. “They need to learn what it means to give back to the
community in which you live and work. It’s all part of becoming
well-rounded – both as a player and a person. The lessons the
players learn by helping others far outweigh the lessons learned on
the field.”
Free of charge,
the Scots football team will be available to help residents within
the Monmouth city limits with whatever spring cleaning projects they
may have between 8 a.m. and noon on April 18. Residents will be
required to supply the necessary tools and cleaning supplies and the
Scots will supply the manpower. Team members will haul trash
curbside for the usual garbage collection, but will not transport it
to any waste collection site.
Residents wanting
the Monmouth College football team members to help with their spring
cleanup should contact Coach Bell in advance at 457-2175 or e-mail
sbell@monm.edu.
“Cleanup Day” should be put in the subject line of the e-mail.
Requests should include the name of the person making the request,
the address of the cleanup location, a telephone contact number and
a brief description of the cleanup job. An appropriate number of
players will then be assigned to each job. Requests for assistance
received the day of the cleanup day on April 18 may not be able to
be fulfilled.
