Scots increase lead in 2nd Round of MWC Championships Release Date:

MONMOUTH, Ill. —
Four rounds in
the 70s increased the Monmouth golf team’s lead at the Midwest
Conference Men’s Golf Championship held at Aldeen Golf Course in
Rockford, Ill.
The Fighting Scots
shaved four strokes off their Thursday score and their 314-310-624
increased their lead over Carroll by six strokes. The Scots now have
a lead of 10 strokes on the Pioneers who carded rounds of
318-316-634. Knox moved from fourth after the 1st round to third
with a 321-315-636.
Monmouth’s Rodney
Clayton matched his opening round 77 with another 77 Friday to
stand alone in third with a 154. Ryan Harvey matched
Clayton’s 77 and moved up from a tie for 13th Thursday to
a tie for eighth at the end of the day Friday with an 80-77-157.
Harvey is tied with teammate Greg Jones who improved in Round
2 with a 79-78-157. Jake Kilberg became the fourth man to
check in with a round in the 70s on Friday. The senior shaved eight
strokes off his first day score and with an 86-78-164 is tied for 23rd.
Consistent rounds of
80-80-160 has Ted Starkey tied for 14th. Ryan
Tapscott, tied for fifth after Round 1, ballooned to an 84 on
Friday. His score of 78-84-162 dropped him into a tie for 18th.
The Scots will tee
off in the last session in Saturday’s final round beginning at 11:52
a.m. Monmouth is aiming for their 11th conference title
and the fourth under coach Dave Ragone. The conference championship
team will receive the league’s automatic berth in the NCAA
Championships May 10-15 in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
