THREE MONMOUTH WRESTLERS EARN TITLES AT DUBUQUE
The Monmouth College wrestling team continues to make up for lack of numbers with strength of performance. The Fighting Scots had three individual champions at last weekend's University of Dubuque Wrestling Tournament to claim the second-place team trophy. The runner-up effort came only one week after the wrestlers had landed third-place team honors at the Elmhurst Invitational.
Monmouth's three individual champions all posted 2-0 match records to claim titles in their respective weight class. Seniors Mike Burden (Erie,IL/HS) improved his season record to 17-10 in the 149-pound division and classmate Derek Harris (Romeoville,IL/HS) moved one step closer to the 20-win mark with his effort at 165 pounds. Harris' record now stands at 19-6 and he leads the squad in individual victories this season. Junior Luke Burton (Monmouth,IL/HS) won the 174-pound class to move his season mark to a stellar 11-3.
The wrestlers are in action again this weekend as they make the short trip to Galesburg for the Knox College Invitational Tournament on Saturday before competing at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional qualifying meet at Lawrence University later this month.
