WOMEN'S SOCCER EARNS FIRST WINNING RECORD
WITH HOME VICTORY OVER DOMINICAN

MONMOUTH,IL -- The Monmouth women's soccer team assured itself of the first winning season in the brief four-year history of the program as the Scots won their final home match of the season in dramatic fashion. Monmouth won its second consecutive overtime contest, defeating Dominican University 2-1 at Bobby Woll Field. The victory moves the Scots' season record to 8-6 with one match remaining and also closes the women's home schedule with a winning 5-3 mark.

Dominican, an NAIA school from River Forest, Illinois, jumped out to a 1-0 lead with its lone goal at the 38:36 mark of the first half. The lead would hold until ten minutes remained on the clock when Monmouth finally found the net. Freshman forward Jessica Adams (Harvard,IL/HS) became the second Fighting Scot female to tally ten or more goals in a single season when she scored her tenth goal in the 80th minute of play. Freshman Kimberly Morris (Crystal Lake,IL/Central) was credited with the assist.

"This win was all about heart," said Monmouth coach Simon Cordery. "We did a great job of keeping the ball in Dominican's half of the field in the second period. Sustained pressure was the key and it ultimately paid off, guaranteeing the first winning season in the history of the program."

Junior forward Tisha Kimoto (Aurora,IL/Waubonsie Valley) ended the match in style for Monmouth as she netted her team-high 11th goal of the season early in the first overtime period. Kimoto, who had also scored the winning goal in Sunday's 1-0 overtime victory against Lawrence, took a crossing pass from Morris in the 97th minute and beat the Dominican goalie for the winner. It was the junior's 20th career goal and sixth in the last six matches.

Monmouth outshot Dominican 23-14 for the match. Sophomore Colleen Shaughnessy (Springfield,IL/Ursuline Academy) played the entire 98 minutes in goal for the Scots and was credited with six saves.

The Scots complete their fall schedule on the road next Wednesday afternoon as they travel to Bloomington, Illinois to face Illinois Wesleyan. Kickoff time is set for 3:00 PM on the IWU campus.
