Monmouth College freshman forward Megan Meeke (Elmhurst, Ill./York) scored three goals in two matches and was named the Midwest Conference Offensive Performer of the Week in women’s soccer.

Meeke scored the game-winner Saturday against Hannibal-LaGrange in the 82nd minute. She found the back of the net twice in a 6-0 shutout over arch-rival Knox. The freshman is second for the Scots in goals and points.

Monmouth College freshman defender Brittney Parker (Waukegan, Ill./Warren) helped the Fighting Scots to a season-opening 1-0 blanking of Eureka College and was named the Midwest Conference Defensive Performer of the Week in women’s soccer.

Parker not only helped the Fighting Scots hold the Red Devils in check, she also was part of an offensive onslaught that peppered Eureka’s goalkeeper with 32 shots on goal. The freshman netted the game’s only goal in the 54th minute to provide the winning margin in Monmouth’s season-opening victory.

 FIGHTING SCOTS TEAM INFORMATION

BARRY McNAMARA, MC’s associate director of college communications, is the Fighting Scots’ women’s soccer coach, and he has guided the program to a 43-32-7 record through his first five seasons.

McNamara lettered in both soccer and tennis at Beloit College, where he was a starting midfielder, and he has first-hand knowledge of what it takes to be a Division III student-athlete.

For the past several years, he has also been active with youth soccer, coaching successful school and club teams in Galva, Monmouth and Galesburg.

“I’m very excited about the state of soccer at Monmouth College,” said McNamara. “We reached the postseason for the first time in 2005, and we look forward to returning many times.”

McNamara, who was named the Midwest Conference Coach of the Year in 2005, lives in Monmouth with his wife, Vicki, and two children.

DICK JOHNSTON,
a professor in MC’s department of political economy and commerce, played soccer at nationally-ranked State University of New York at Oneonta and then coached Division I soccer at Lehigh University. He has also coached youth soccer for two decades. He and his wife live in Monmouth and have two children in college.
