KIMOTO SELECTED TO WOMEN'S SOCCER ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM; FOUR MEN EARN SECOND-TEAM HONORS
Senior forward Tisha Kimoto (Pittsford,NY/Waubonsie Valley [IL] HS) earned her fourth consecutive all-league honor in women's soccer with her inclusion on the 1998 Midwest Conference All-Conference First Team list. The teams were released by the MWC office on November 17 following the soccer coaches' annual business meeting and included 22 players from the conference's ten member schools. Kimoto was the only Fighting Scot player selected on the coaches' ballot.
It was Kimoto's third First-Team selection in her four years at Monmouth. The senior also earned First Team honors as a freshman and sophomore before collecting Second Team laurels during her junior season. Kimoto will leave the Fighting Scot women's soccer program with all of the major scoring records. She scored 12 goals this fall and added five assists for a team-high 29 points. The goal and point totals were single-season records as are Kimoto's career totals of 32 goals and 71 points.
Megan Tiemann of Lawrence University and Amy Walters of Grinnell College were selected by league coaches as the Co-Players of the Year. Lake Forest earned a league-high five All-Conference selections and conference champion Carroll garnered three.
Monmouth failed to get any selections on the ten-player First Team ballot for men's soccer but did place four players on the MWC Second Team list. Senior midfielders Sean Lowery (St. Peters,MO/Francis Howell North) and Washington Mukumbila (Addis Ababa,Ethiopia/ Tigoni Intl.) were chosen for the 21-man Second Team, along with juniors Gary Schneider (East Moline,IL/United Township) and Matt Burge (Champaign,IL/Central). Burge and Mukumbila each scored two goals this season and Schneider and Lowery were noted for their efforts on the defensive side of the field. Monmouth finished the season at 3-10-2. Beloit and Lake Forest led the All-Conference teams with five selections each.
