VOLLEYBALL DEFEATS MSC AT HOME

MONMOUTH -- The Monmouth College women’s volleyball team enjoyed one of its largest crowds of the season on Friday night at Glennie Gymnasium and treated the partisan Homecoming Weekend fans to a three-game victory over Mount St. Clare. Monmouth won the extremely close match by scores of 15-11, 15-13 and 15-13. Both teams now stand at 13-10 for the season. The victory avenged an earlier loss to the Mounties, who defeated Monmouth in the Scots’ first match of the season at the Scots’ home invitational tournament in September.

Junior twins Wendy and Cindy Erlandson (Kirkwood,IL/Yorkwood) led the team in the win on Friday. Wendy paced the offense at the net with 11 kills and also contributed a team-high four blocks on defense, while Cindy directed the offensive sets and handed out 15 assists. She also earned four service aces. Sophomore Cathie Osborn (Hartsburg,IL/Hartsburg-Emden) recorded a team-high 16 digs and senior Michelle Kommer (Monticello,IL/Monticello) added 11 as the Scots’ defense was able to neutralize the taller MSC hitters.
